What is the “fawn” response?

I had heard about fight/flight/freeze…but “fawn” was new to me. And once I learned about it… I realized that it was one of my most common responses to fear and stress!

When we slip into “people pleasing” to avoid difficult situations, this is fawning. We may try to protect ourselves from danger or emotional pain through trying to avoid triggering others.

Think, “If I give this wild animal a treat, maybe it will be my friend and not attack me.”

This is a natural and helpful response of our nervous system…until it becomes a habit and we loose ourselves in shapeshifting for others.

If our nervous systems get stuck in the fawn response…we feel helpless and powerless, and our relationships can become codependent.

Vigorously shaking your body for several minutes can be a great way to reset your nervous system - try it!

And it’s even more fun to do in a group! Join us for class on Wednesday at The Innerwork Center for nervous system healing.

Reclaim your power!
