Tolerance

Feeling like you have to “tolerate” a lot right now?
Your extended family?
Holiday expectations?
Co-workers you don’t see eye-to-eye with?
Politicians with different values than yours?
It can feel like a lot to tolerate.
But “tolerating” implies a hierarchy. You’re right and they’re wrong. If only they were different…then I could feel OK.
It feeds separation, not connection.
What if we looked at “tolerating” differently?
What if we practice “tolerating” the uncomfortable feelings we have within us when difficult conditions arise? And what if we re-frame it as “being with”?
Usually when we feel like we can’t tolerate something, it’s because we can’t tolerate the feelings it brings up in ourselves.
So let’s practice being with ourselves with compassion. Welcoming the myriad of feelings that arise. Holding our own wholeness. Practicing kindness with ourselves.
The hope is that you won’t feel like you’re “tolerating” things and people as much. That your heart will naturally open with compassion.
Let me know how it goes!
And if you want some support, we’re practicing the “Kriya for Tolerance” in yoga & meditation class this week.
Wednesday 9:15 am (the day before Thanksgiving)
All are welcome for this sliding scale class
