Is Peace Boring?

Peace can feel boring
Hear me out….
I’ve been contemplating peace a lot since the Venerable Monk’s Walk for Peace through Richmond last week
And I’m noticing how much my system is accustomed to the “jolt” from a news headline, a controversy, a story my husband tells me about something that happened at work, etc.
When things are peaceful, it almost feels…boring
So what’s the difference?
Peace is contended presence, while boredom is uncomfortable and wants things to be different
Peace feels fulfilling, while boredom is restless and looking for stimulation or a distraction
That being said, I think if we strengthen our “boredom” skills, and lessen the bombardment of stimulation we often experience, it might help us cultivate the capacity for peace
Honestly, I’m not sure…what do you think?
I’m going to keep working with this…my desire for peace, and the ways I use my attention that are not aligned with my desire for peace
