5 stress responses

What is your go-to response for stress? Imagine a wild animal is attacking you…the 5 F’s are:

  1. Fight - pick up a stick to fight back
  2. Flight - run away
  3. Freeze - body goes rigid and still, hoping the animal won’t see you
  4. Fawn/Friend - offer the animal a treat hoping it won’t attack you
  5. Flop - body goes limp, play dead or pass out

These stress responses are hard-wired, and they are great strategies if a wild animal is attacking you. But for most of us… That’s not a daily occurrence.

But, we are bombarded daily with stressors like the news, never ending emails and texts, challenges in our relationships and at work…and you know, LIFE.

Our bodies react to modern stressors, like our computer crashing, in the same way it would react to a wild animal attack. And we not only get depleted from repeated stress responses, we can also get stuck in them.

There’s lots of tools that can help us with these stress responses. One that works really well for me is Kundalini Yoga. And I’ve worked with hundreds of people over the years that it’s helped them too.

For the 5 Wednesday mornings in May, we’ll do practices that will target each of these 5 F-stress responses to help us understand them better, and re-set our nervous systems. This will help us meet life with clarity, resiliency, and vitality.

Which one do you relate to most? I’d love to hear.

No experience is necessary, and all are welcome.
